‘Spring Uprising’ announced by Extinction Rebellion
Following the Youth Strike 4 Climate and Stokes Croft party, the weekend of March 16 and 17 sees Extinction Rebellion bringing a festival of activism and music to the city.
The Spring Uprising aims to train festival-goers in peaceful, non-violent civil disobedience and will be held at Motion. The festival is being planned ahead of the International Rebellion, starting on April 15.
“This is the next step in our response to the threat to life we all face, a potentially life changing event for attendees. Let’s celebrate coming together, get trained, organised and have a damn good time doing it,” says festival organiser, Tiana Jacout.

There will be eight areas to explore at the festival. The Rebel Hall will be the a hub of music and talks, along with direct action training for 1,000 people at a time. Art areas include the Gallery, The Art Factory and Resistance Exhibition.
The Solution Zone will be showcasing local and national solutions to the environmental crisis and The Sanctuary will be a welcoming regenerative space, with a café, grief counsellors and body workers.
Training Rooms are smaller spaces for specific activism training, and no festival is complete without food: the Ethical Food Quarter will provide sustenance from ethical traders and food waste organisations, with no plastic in sight.
As well as the opportunities to learn, there will be the chance to hear music acts, poets, speakers, artists and authors throughout the weekend.
Saturday will see live streams from Extinction Rebellion groups around the country, giving attendees the chance to make friends nationwide. On Sunday, this continues, with live streams from further afield in the USA and Ghana.
Robin Boardman of Extinction Rebellion Bristol said: “This will be a powerful coming together of energy, ideas and trainings about how to take Extinction Rebellion forward to challenge to the UK government.”
