SS Great Britain dry dock transformed for immersive experience
The poet whose words form an indelible impression as part of new audiovisual show Iron Island at the SS Great Britain says that the historic themes explored also strongly resonate with contemporary culture.
“Interacting with SS Great Britain through poetry was my favourite way to work,” said Saili Katebe, who has written a new spoken word piece for Iron Island.
Katebe says that he and the rest of the creative team were trying to address issues such as the role the ship played with immigration and changing the course of family stories.
is needed now More than ever
Iron Island sees the dry dock at the SS Great Britain transformed into an immersive experience by award-winning multimedia design studio Limbic Cinema.
It combines projection, lighting and surround sound to transport audiences on a journey through underwater worlds, with Katebe’s poetry accompanied by original music composed by Joe Acheson.
The audience is taken on a journey across the ocean, seeing the view from below the waves.
