St Paul’s Carnival to return in 2017
St Paul’s Carnival will return to Bristol next year on its traditional day of the first Saturday in July.
But in order for the carnival to take place, a new voluntary board of directors to run its new management organisation now needs to be recruited.
The new carnival organisation will be a Community Interest Company (CIC) who will have responsibility to deliver the 2017 carnival and beyond, and appoint a carnival management team.
is needed now More than ever
Appointments will be made in early December by a steering group including members of the body who formerly ran the event.
Chair of the Carnival Reference Group, Jonathan Jackson, said: “We have had tremendous input from over 100 people into this process and we’d like to thank every one of them for their time in helping to find a way to move carnival forward.
“We want to spread the word to help us to recruit the very best, most experienced board from the community of Bristol and beyond.”
Bristol mayor Marvin Rees added: “St Paul’s Carnival is and always will be a huge part of this city’s cultural identity. It’s important that we bring this showcase of Afrikan Caribbean culture back to the city streets so we will can again embrace the important role the community plays in our city life.
“I fully support the move to put in place a viable and sustainable plan and organisation to secure the future of Carnival as we approach its half century in 2018.”
