Stories from our city: New project for budding filmmakers
We’ve teamed up with boomsatsuma to give people from marginalised communities in Bristol the opportunity to take part in a new film-making project.
Stories From Our City will give people the chance to learn the skills needed to tell their stories through film. The course will be led by boomsatsuma, who have delivered arts and culture opportunities to more than 5,000 children and young people in the South West.
The course will be taught through a series of workshops run by boomsatsuma, with additional mentorship from some of Bristol’s leading filmmakers. It will cover everything needed to make a film – from narrative building to film production. Those on the course will also be supported to find further opportunities in the industry once the course has ended.
is needed now More than ever
Bristol is the third largest centre for film and television production in the UK after London and Manchester. According to the BFI “if the industry continues to grow at the same pace seen over the past five years, this could amount to a need for over 10,000 new job entrants to the sector by 2020.”
Organisations such as boomsatsuma are helping to close this skills gap, but there is still a lack of opportunities for people from diverse backgrounds. Creating opportunities for people who may not otherwise have access to them is a key focus for Better Bristol, so we’re excited to launch this new project.
The course pilot will take place this autumn thanks to funding from Quartet Community Foundation and the support of our Bristol24/7 members.
We will begin recruiting for the course later in the year. If you are interested in finding out more about the course and how you could be involved email partnerships@bristol247.com.
