Supporting Greater Sustainability in Bristol’s Food, Drink and Hospitality SME Community
Bristol’s food and drink and hospitality sectors are an amazing mixture of businesses and individuals all contributing to one of the UK’s regional hotspots for creativity and innovation. Alongside the amazing products and customer experiences that these businesses provide, there is a strong sense of engagement with environmental and social responsibility making them critical in driving progressive change within the local economy.
UWE Bristol’s Skills for Clean Growth is a programme designed to help SMEs in the region engage with the sustainability agenda in a purposeful way and for the last 18 months has managed to support well over 100 local businesses to take tangible next steps. Local businesses have benefitted from training covered through the programme including carbon measurement and reduction, incorporating sustainability into communication and marketing plans, green energy and waste management. Alongside these more generic themes which support businesses in all sectors, there have been deep dives into the digital economy and strategies to measure and reduce emissions in this space.
On Wednesday 5th July in collaboration with Future Leap, we will be delivering a morning workshop focused on carbon reduction activity in the food, drink and hospitality sector incorporating some of the best case studies the region can provide, with market leading businesses in the sector passing on their experiences and learnings. Pieminister, The Assemblies Ltd and Bristol Beer Factory will all be on hand to discuss the innovative steps they have taken in delivering first class products whilst also considering their role in driving environmental change. Discussion will incorporate some of the challenges and complexities businesses face alongside the possible routes to overcoming them. Given the scale of the challenge ahead, sharing best known practices and working collaboratively will be key for the region.
