TEDx talks return
TEDx Bristol has released the lineup for 2015’s series of science snippets which this year will be themed around ‘Great Xpectations for the future’, to include topics as varied as robots, male suicide, wellbeing, gay adoption, rehabilitation and trauma parenting.
Hosted at the Colston Hall on Wednesday November 11, the one-day event will see 14 speakers share their views on myriad themes. Dr Paul Bremner will present the first TEDx talk to be presented via teleoperated humanoid robot which replicates the movements of its human operator; Team GB coach Kim Ingleby is set to talk about how she harnessed mind and body in her battle to overcome an unexpected illness; entrepreneur Tom Savage will explore whether there’s a modern contradiction between work and rest in an age of ambition; and Jess Ratty will be talking, perhaps incongruously, about both Bristol’s response to the migrant crisis and our upcoming surf lake.
This is the first year that organisers have introduced a dedicated app to allow the event to go paperless, part of wider sustainability efforts.
is needed now More than ever
Event curator Melanie Rodrigues said: “TEDxBristol is set to be the biggest and best yet. Each and every speaker has a unique story to tell and we’re so pleased to be able to provide a platform for them. The Great Xpectation theme perfectly describes the energy and enthusiasm we’ve seen from the speakers, the organisers and the people of Bristol. We’ve had a fantastic response so far, and it’s set to be a sell-out event – we can’t wait!”
