TEDxBristol to return in 2023 after four-year break

By Betty Woolerton  Thursday May 11, 2023

Inspiring voices of our city will be amplified on the global stage as TEDxBristol is set return after a four-year hiatus.

Coming to the SS Great Britain, TEDxBristol promises to to be as inspiring as ever as it shines a light on a diverse panel of speakers telling their stories.

It is a chance for local people to be given a major platform for their innovative ideas, as well as highlighting the often overlooked but important work within Bristol’s community.

The last TEDxBristol in November 2019 at Bristol Old Vic saw talks from Tegan Vincent-Cooke, Aisha Thomas and Sam Rush.

Paul Wiseall, who was also speaker in 2019 and spoke about digital death, is now the creative director of TEDxBristol, leading it with a team of Bristol-based people including TEDxBristol speaker coach Barney Speed and BBC producer Dina Mufti.

Wiseall said: “We’re so proud that TEDxBristol is back for the first time in four years.

“Bristol has changed a lot in that time, from facing the pandemic together to the Colston statue coming down.

“There is no better time than now for TEDxBristol to put the voices of our city on the global stage.

“I cannot imagine a better venue to showcase the brilliance of Bristol than the SS Great Britain and we’re incredibly excited to be partnering with them this year.

“The SS Great Britain is a true icon and together we’re gearing up to put on a stunning show which will wow audiences.

“Speaker applications are still open and we’re looking for anyone with an idea or story that will leave the audience wanting to change the world.”

TEDxBristol organisers want to know from applicants:

  • What’s your big idea?
  • Who are you and why are you the person to give this talk?
  • Who is your talk designed to appeal to? I.e Who is the audience?
  • What’s your connection to Bristol?

To apply, visit www.tedxbristol.com/become-a-speaker. Submission close on Monday at 11.59.
