Ten-year-old boy assaulted in race attack
A ten-year-old Asian boy was “dragged” into a building site in Fishponds and assaulted by two boys, aged 11 and 12, in what police believe was a racially motivated attack.
The boy was discovered off Station Avenue South at about 6pm on Monday by a member of the public. He was taken to Bristol Children’s Hospital with injuries to his face and body, but was later discharged.
Pictures posted on Facebook by his family show him with a bloodied face and hands, and marks on his body.

Police said they were treating the incident as racially motivated due to the words allegedly used by the two offenders.
The victim’s aunt said he was “dragged into the building” and was “kicked, punched and hit against the scaffolding” during the attack.
Detective Inspector Steve Cartlidge added that two boys have been identified and are awaiting a formal interview.
The victim is due to be video interviewed to gain a full picture of what happened.
The BBC tweeted a picture of victim following the attack:

Det Insp Cartlidge said: “Any form of hate crime will be thoroughly investigated and we will be supporting the victim’s family and keeping them fully informed of our progress.
“We’d like to thank the local community for the help they’ve already provided to us, as well as the woman who came to the victim’s aid following the assault.
“If anyone has information about this incident, or if you were in the Station Avenue South area of Fishponds at the time it happened, please call us as soon as possible.”
Police are asking witnesses to call 101 and give the call handler the reference number 5216197665.
Bristol, and the rest of the country, has witnessed a growth in hate crimes since the Brexit vote.
