Tesco pull out of Hanham plans

By Bristol24/7  Monday Nov 14, 2016

Tesco has confirmed that it will not now be building a new store on the former Kleeneze site in Hanham.

The company bought the site off Martin Road and Anstey Road in 2003, but had to massively scale back its plans for a superstore after residents raised concerns about the impact of the extra traffic and the threat to shops on the High Street.

Plans for a store were finally approved in 2012 but the land remained undeveloped and was occupied by travellers.

A spokeswoman for Hanham Parish Council said Tesco has now withdrawn plans for the store completely.

She added that they do not know what Tesco will now do with the land but if they try and sell it for housing the land would have to be reclassified from industrial to housing.
