The Brizzz Sleep Out

By Cat Marshall  Tuesday Nov 15, 2016

Around 200 people will be spending the night outside in Rivergate, Temple Quay, with nothing but a cardboard mat and a sleeping bag.

Bristol’s Sleep Out, on November 24, is one of 12 that will be happening across the country as part of the End Youth Homelessness National Sleep Out Campaign, supporting homeless young people.

Last year’s event raised £28,000 and this year the aim is to beat that. Money will go towards 1625 Independent People, a charity that helps around 2,500 homeless young people every year in Bristol and surrounding areas.

1625ip provide housing, skills training, mental and physical health services and more to make sure that they don’t have to sleep on the streets.

There is limited support for the staggering 83,000 young people face homelessness every year – and half of all people facing homelessness are under 25.

The idea of the campaign is not to try and replicate homelessness, but to keep the issue as a high priority on the government agenda and raise awareness of this pressing issue.

If you’d like to join the Sleep Out, you can register here. Alternatively, you can register to volunteer at the event by emailing fundraising@1625ip.co.uk. Donations can be made on the Sleep Out’s JustGiving page, or by Texting BRZZ88 £5 (or whatever you can afford) to 70070.

Follow the campaign on Twitter and Facebook.
