This is when leisure centres will reopen in Bristol

By Ellie Pipe  Monday Jul 27, 2020

Some leisure centres in Bristol are due to open their doors in early August for the first time in four months.

The city’s main sports operator Everyone Active has announced centres in Horfield, Henbury and Easton will be back in business from Saturday, August 1, while St Paul’s Community Sports Academy will reopen on Monday, August 3.

The Government announced on July 9 that indoor swimming pools and sports facilities could reopen from July 25.

It’s a cautious return for Bristol leisure centres though, with just gym and group exercises classes available at first.

The swimming pools in Horfield, Henbury and Easton Leisure Centres will remain closed until Wednesday, August 19, with swimming lessons set to resume on Saturday, August 22.

Bristol South Swimming Pool and Kingsdown Sports Centre will also stay shut while the company works out a way to ensure the sites can reopen safely in line with Government guidance. Members can use facilities on other sites in the meantime.

Everyone Active bosses say more facilities and activities will reopen as part of a “phased approach” and members will be updated as dates are confirmed.

Gary Teagle, Everyone Active’s contract manager, said: “We’re very much looking forward to reopening the centres and welcoming back the local community. After being closed for nearly four months, this latest announcement from Government is the news the leisure industry has been eagerly awaiting.

“Giving people the opportunity to resume activity and exercise in their leisure centre will go a long way to maintaining the good health of local communities.

“We’ve been overwhelmed with the support we have received from customers during these unprecedented times, and we’re so grateful. Like many other industries, leisure has been greatly affected by the lockdown.

“Ensuring our colleagues and customers remain safe is our number one priority and we have carefully considered the strict measurements to ensure we adhere to the guidance. We will be contacting all customers directly over the coming days regarding the centres reopening. We look forward to welcoming everyone back and thanking them for their patience.”
