Thousands join Bristol rally against suspension of parliament
“No one voted for Boris” the crowd sang to the tune of the White Stripes’ Seven Nation Army as they made their way from Cabot Circus past Castle Park.
Thousands of people had turned out for Bristol’s second ‘stop the coup’ protest.
After the march snaked through the city, protesters returned to Castle Park for speeches including from Bristol’s Labour MPs who have previously expressed their fury at the prorogation of parliament.
is needed now More than ever
The protest came as Bristol West remains the UK constituency with the highest number of signatures on a petition against prime minister Boris Johnson’s plan to suspend Parliament.
Johnson will temporarily suspend the House of Commons from the second week of September until October 14 when there will be a Queen’s Speech to open a new session of Parliament.
The UK is set to leave the EU on October 31 – less than three weeks after Parliament is set to return.
