Thousands likely to join Corbyn rally
More than one thousand people have indicated they will attend a rally with Jeremy Corbyn on College Green on Monday evening.
The Labour Party leader will be hoping for similar scenes to Liverpool last week when over 5,000 gathered in support of his re-election bid.
By Monday morning, about 1,200 people had signed up to attend the public event in Bristol since it was announced on Facebook on Friday.
is needed now More than ever
Corbyn was mobbed on the streets of Easton earlier this year on one of three visits to the city support to mayor Marvin Rees before May’s local elections.
Rees will not be speaking at the rally outside City Hall, but two Labour councillors – Kye Dudd (Central) and Hibaq Jama (Lawrence Hill) – will be taking to the stage alongside Diane Abbott and other speakers. Speeches are due to begin at 7pm.
Corbyn’s visit follows a private rally held by his challenger Owen Smith at The Station on Silver Street which attracted 200 supporters last week.
All three of the city’s Labour MPs voted in favour of a vote of no confidence in Corbyn. All three also resigned from their posts in the shadow cabinet in protest.
