Thousands march in Bristol for climate change

By Chris Brown  Monday Sep 22, 2014

Thousands of people have marched through Bristol in support of action to tackle manmade climate change – one of more than 2,000 marches which took place around the world.

An estimated 3,000 people began their march in Castle Park at about 3pm, snaking through Broadmead before gathering for a rally at College Green.

Groups such as Greenpeace were part of the crowd, along with campaigners against fracking and nuclear power.

Bristol mayor George Ferguson addressed some of the crowd from New York, where he has joined world leaders for a United Nations-sponsored conference.

Tuesday’s summit is the first such gathering since the unsuccessful Copenhagen conference in 2009.

The meeting will attempt to push forward political momentum towards a new universal agreement on climate to be signed by all nations at the end of 2015.
