Thousands take to streets to mark 100 years of women getting vote
Their way lit by illuminated lanterns as the snow was falling, thousands of women and men made their way from Berkeley Square, around the Clifton Triangle and down Park Street to mark the centenary of some women getting the vote for the first time.

Two giant suffragette mannequins among the crowd drew plenty of attention, with their hands and arms operated independently of their bodies.

Many in the crowd – which was led by a brass band – wore suffragette outfits, and sung, cheered and danced their way to College Green where a stage had been erected for more songs and speeches.
The march was forced to stop for around five minutes outside the Wills Memorial Building when it was confronted by a counter-protest of around half a dozen women claiming that suffragettes represented white privilege.
“Justice for all, not for some,” the counter-protesters shouted before the main march carried on down Park Street with more singing and cheers.
