Trial date set for man accused of Underfall Yard arson

By Bristol24/7  Monday Jun 5, 2023

A man charged with multiple offences relating to a devastating fire at Underfall Yard has been remanded in custody after appearing at Bristol Crown Court on Monday.

Robert Boyd-Stevenson, from Headford Road in Knowle, is facing two counts of arson in connection with May 5’s blaze which destroyed boats and sheds at the historic boatyard.

The 45-year-old was arrested on the evening of May 6 and appeared at Bristol Magistrates’ Court on May 8, with the case adjourned to be sent to Bristol Crown Court.

Boyd-Stevenson has been charged with arson reckless as to whether life was endangered, arson with intent to endanger life and another, separate, charge of stalking.

On the night of the fire overlooking the Floating Harbour, firefighters from Bath joined their colleagues from across Bristol to battle the fire.

In its wake, the Underfall Yard has met with an outpouring of support from members of the public and businesses that have donated money to rebuild the burnt structures.

A four-to-five day trial has been pencilled in for December 4, with the judge saying it could be held earlier but elsewhere from Bristol.
