Two men have been charged with the murder of an Avonmouth business owner in Lawrence Weston.

Emergency crews were called to reports of a flat fire in Oakhanger Drive at around 11.40pm on Friday (September 29), where the body of Andrew Groves was found.

A post-mortem revealed the 47-year-old died from multiple blows to the head.

Michael Dommett, 38, of Oakhanger Drive and 41-year-old Russell Oakey, from Hanham, have been charged with murder.

The pair were due to appear in Bristol Magistrates Court on Wednesday (October 4).

A third man has also been arrested on suspicion of murder and remains in police custody.

The victim’s family paid tribute this week to a “loving, caring, gentle and joyful man,” who was dedicated to his family and will be sorely missed.
