Two million volts light up city skyline

By Meena Alexander  Tuesday Aug 4, 2015

Bristol’s skyline was lit up by lightning on Monday night to mark the countdown to Arcadia – a one-off event on Queen Square that will trial the world’s first recycled biofuel pyrotechnics system.

Arcadia presented the Lords of Lightning, two men in morph suits who channelled two million volts of electricity through their bodies in front of the Clifton Suspension Bridge.

Taking place against the historic backdrop of Queen Square on September 4 and 5, this will be Arcadia’s first ever inner city event, combining sculpture, music, and huge-scale pyrotechnics.

The two-day spectacular will also see a host of renowned music acts coming to Bristol, including Radio 1 DJ Annie Mac, Eats Everything and home-grown talent Roni Size Reprazent.
