Two teenagers arrested after video appears to show woman’s drink being spiked

By Martin Booth  Saturday Oct 2, 2021

A video circulating on social media which appears to show a man dropping something into a woman’s drink at a nightclub in Bristol has led to the arrest of two 18-year-olds.

The video, which has been viewed thousands of times but which Bristol24/7 is not sharing for legal reasons, seems to show one man distracting a woman while dropping a white substance into her glass.

The man is stood to the left of the woman and a female friend, with the trio facing the camera as the man appears to almost imperceptibly drop the substance into her glass and then in the same movement reach behind her to grab a drink.

The two men who have been arrested on suspicion of administering a noxious substance both live in Gloucestershire, with the nightclub the video was filmed in believed to be in Bristol city centre.

One man in the video named on social media was alleged to be a student at UWE Bristol. But in a tweet, UWE said that “according to our records the person named in this video is not enrolled as a student at our university”.

In a statement released on Saturday, Avon & Somerset police said: “Two men have been arrested as part of an investigation into footage which appears to show something being dropped into a woman’s drink at a Bristol nightclub.

“Two 18-year-old men, both from Gloucestershire, have been arrested on suspicion of administering a noxious substance and they are in custody.

“Enquiries into this incident are ongoing. We’d like to hear from anyone else with information which could help. Please call 101 and give the reference 5221228105.

“If you believe your drink has been tampered with on a night out we’d recommend alerting bar or security staff at the venue, reporting the incident to police by calling 101 and seeking immediate medical advice. The same applies if you’re with someone and believe their drink has been tampered with.

“Adding a substance to someone’s drink without their knowledge or permission is a serious offence, especially if used for the commission of other offences, and could result in serious harm if the person suffers an adverse reaction.”
