Tyre Extinguishers target almost 100 cars in Bristol overnight
A campaign group who want to see some of the biggest cars on the road banned from urban areas let down the tyres of dozens of cars across north Bristol in the early hours of Wednesday morning.
Tyre Extinguishers deflated the tyres of 91 SUVs in Clifton, Westbury Park and Henleaze.
It was part of a global day of action, with teams targeting SUVs in 12 countries.
is needed now More than ever

SUVs were targeted in some of Bristol’s most affluent areas

Tyre Extinguishers say that politicians are not doing enough to combat the climate crisis, so they have to take action themselves
Since March 2022, the campaign group has “disarmed” 406 SUVs across Bristol.
As well as the banning of SUVs in urban areas, the Tyre Extinguishers want pollution levies to tax SUVs out of existence, and investment in free and comprehensive public transport.
A Tyre Extinguishers statement said: “CO2 emissions need to drastically drop by 2025 for us to have a ‘liveable future’ on our planet.
“SUVs are among the top causes of growth in CO2 emissions. Their unnecessarily large size makes them inefficient, and more dangerous to both other road users and pedestrians. We don’t need them in cities.
“We want to make it impossible to own one of these vehicles in our city. Until our politicians address the climate and ecological emergency, Tyre Extinguishers actions will continue.”

Tyre Extinguishers justify disrupting ordinary people because their SUVs take up a disproportionate amount of public space, poisoning our air with their exhaust fumes and being a danger to other road users

Electric SUVs share many of the downsides of fossil fuel SUVs, according to the campaigners
