Vandalised digital ad screen turned on for first time
A digital advertising screen that was daubed in paint just weeks after being built has finally been turned on.
Paint splatters can still be seen on the screen and the pavement on which it stands following the actions of a group calling itself BADASS (Bristol Against Digital Advertising Screens).
A fundraising campaign for Bristol & Weston Hospitals Charity currently appears to be the one advert on the 11-metre-high screen.
is needed now More than ever
The screen was erected in June by global advertising giant JCDecaux on Bond Street South behind Cabot Circus.
The structure was initially refused planning permission by elected councillors at a planning committee meeting in 2018 but later approved after an appeal to the Planning Inspectorate, the national planning body.
“Once again a faceless corporation has trumped local democracy and local people’s wishes in favour of its own immense, remote profits,” said campaign group Adblock Bristol.
