Volunteers wanted for Avon Community Resilience Team
The Avon Community Resilience Team (Avon CRT), which supports communities across Avon to be better prepared for adverse situations like flooding and high winds, is looking for volunteers.
It is coordinated by the charity Search And Rescue Assistance In Disasters (SARAID), which deploys humanitarian aid after natural disasters. SARAID is aiming to create a team of volunteers trained to support communities during emergencies, with the support of Avon Fire & Rescue Service and Avon & Somerset Police.
The work of these volunteers can do much to reduce the pressure and demand put on the emergency services in certain circumstances. It also aims to create a link between members of the community and the emergency services.
New volunteers are trained in basic first aid, map reading, search techniques, radio communications and volunteer coordination.
Tasks may include delivering supplies following a flood, clearing hoarders’ houses, attending community events, fire prevention, giving advice following a crime, and searching for missing people.
Anyone over the age of 18 can volunteer. No experience is necessary.
