‘We shall dance again’ proclaim joyful Bristol billboards

By Ellie Pipe  Friday Feb 26, 2021

A woman walking her dog along Church Road pauses to look at a bold new billboard poster before going on her way with a smile.

Zoe Power’s mission to spread some hope and joy around the city is certainly succeeding in this little corner of Bristol.

The latest vibrant work by the Bristol-based artist and signwriter depicts figures dancing joyously above the word ‘We shall dance again!’ – a simple sentiment that so many can appreciate following months of lockdown.

The billboards form part of the ongoing Your Space Or Mine arts initiative by outdoor advertising firm Buildhollywood, which provides a platform for artists on the streets, with pieces displayed on sites across Bristol for people to enjoy in safe, distanced and accessible way.

Zoe says the importance of music and performing arts is being felt perhaps more keenly than ever.

We shall dance again was loosely based on the theme of ‘dream’,” says the artist.

“For many of us, boogying on a sticky dance floor at a bar, gig or party seems like a distant dream. I want to give a shout-out to performers, musicians and those in the events industry who have faced a particularly challenging year.”

The bold posters are designed to give people a boost and also as a shout-out to performers, musicians and those in the events industry who have faced a particularly challenging year.

In 2020, Zoe created a new mural on Martin Street in Bedminster. Entitled Nous (or We), the piece is designed to mark solidarity, unity and sisterhood during a year that shone a light on racial injustice, saw the beginnings of Brexit and witnessed a pivotal US election.
