What should be included on the new Bristol Monopoly?

By Betty Woolerton  Thursday May 11, 2023

A new version of Bristol Monopoly is being designed to celebrate the city’s 650th year.

Being released in November, the public have the chance to nominate Bristol landmarks they think should feature in the game.

It comes more than two decades after Bristol first landed its own board, which was recently discontinued.

“It’s a new game for a new generation,” said John Keen-Tomlinson from Winning Moves UK, the company producing the board.

Keen-Tomlinson added: “We’ve had a Bristol Monopoly since 2000 but, as you can imagine, the landscape of Bristol has significantly changed since then.

“It’s a perfect time with Bristol’s 650th anniversary of being a county to revitalise that and get a more reflective view of Bristol on the monopoly board.

“We are going to be listening to the public and watching out suggestions mailbox very closely and make our decisions based off that.”

On the old board, the most expensive square was Anchor Road and Temple Street was the cheapest.

The new board will themed in genres, from heritage to tourism, hotels to shopping, business to charity and more.

Winning Moves UK has hinted there may be a street art set “in recognition of Bristol’s thriving art culture”.

The cards will be Bristol-themed too, and players will be able to send other players to Somerset rather than the Monopoly jail.

Marvin Rees, Bristol mayor, said: “This year Bristol marks the 650th anniversary of being granted county status by the then monarch, King Edward III.

“We can’t wait for this new edition of the world’s most famous board game to be released, helping celebrate our great city.”

Bristol Monopoly will be available to purchase from November. Before it goes to production, the public have until May 24 to suggest Bristol landmarks and cards to feature in the game by emailing: bristol650@winningmoves.co.uk
