Whiteladies Road disruption for three months
Traffic on Whiteladies Road will be disrupted for up to three months from next week as work begins to replace 800 metres of gas pipe.
On May 5, work will start outside the BBC building, inserting 500 metres of new pipe northwards up to the junction with Cotham Hill and 300 metres of new pipe southwards to the former Habitat building on Queen’s Road.
While the work is carried out there will be temporary lane and bus lane closures, and traffic restrictions.
is needed now More than ever
Wales & West Utilities programme controller Mick Gallavin said: “We know that working on a strategic route close to Bristol city centre is not ideal, but this really is essential work that will support the growth of the city into the future.
“We have worked closely with Bristol City Council in planning this work, who have requested that we start our 12-week programme on 5 May, so that our works are completed in advance of wider regeneration works they have planned.
“Although our work on Whiteladies Road will be disruptive in the short term, it is the only way we can carry out this work safely and efficiently.
“There have been several leaks on this pipeline in the last few years, and we are carrying out this work now so that we can reduce the risk of gas leaks occurring and the need for us to carry out costly and disruptive ad hoc repairs in the future.”
A public drop-in session to find out more about the works is taking place at Commonwealth House, 14 Whiteladies Road, on Friday, May 1 between midday and 7pm.
