Why Bristol24/7 wants to employ a dedicated climate change reporter
It was a historic step when Bristol City Council became the first in the UK to declare a climate emergency and pledged to become carbon neutral by 2030.
Further ambitious announcements followed suit as organisations and businesses promised to take urgent action to create a greener future.
Bristol went on to declare an ecological emergency in 2020 in recognition of the “unprecedented and escalating” threat to wildlife.
is needed now More than ever
In many ways, the city is prioritising the fight against climate change, but many people are frustrated by the pace of change and there is still a long way to go to build a greener, fairer society city that works for all.

We believe that in order to meet these challenging targets, we need to keep climate and the environment at the forefront of city conversations, inspire individuals, businesses and the government to take meaningful actions on a local level.
We have the reach and connections across the city to amplify these messages, but we need to employ a dedicated Climate and Sustainability Editor to deliver the most impact.
The role would give practical advice on actions that can be taken, keep the city informed, hold institutions to account for their actions and help drive forward the city’s ambition to become Net Zero by 2030. It would be the first of its kind on a regional level and we hope it would inspire other local media to follow suit.
W are looking to raise £10,000 to cover this part time position for 12 months. If you are interested in hearing more or are able to help with sponsoring a Climate Editor, email ben@bristol247.com.
