Wider community invited to contribute to Colston’s School name change
Colston’s School have announced the launch of their public survey, and welcome the views of the public as they begin the process of changing their name.
Since the school was founded in 1710 by Edward Colston, more light has been shed with the problematic nature of the name of the school as the year’s have progressed.
The school would like to be a contributing factor to the changes to racial injustice taking place globally, and locally in the city of Bristol.
is needed now More than ever
“We are very keen to hear the views of as many people as possible to help drive the decision around the future of the school’s name,” headmaster Jeremy McCullough states.

“We understand that there are numerous viewpoints on this complex issue, and hope that the range of resources and research materials our pupils have had the opportunity to engage with, and that are available on the website, will also help the community form their own thoughts and opinions.”
Members of Colston’s staff, parents, former pupils alongside the wider public are all invited to access the survey through their website.
The survey will be accessible to the public until Friday July 16th. After collating, verifying and analysing all data, school governors will go through consideration of responses in September.

Colston’s also welcome Ex-Irish International player Girvan Dempsey as their new head of rugby, who will be starting in the coming Autumn Term. McCullough speaks on Dempsey’s promising heart for the school’s rugby players.
“I am delighted to be joining Colston’s, an excellent school with a strong rugby tradition. Both staff and students are very impressive and it is clear that the school continues to aim high for its rugby players,” Dempsey says.

I am passionate about coaching and eager to help the boys and girls at Colston’s fulfil their potential both on and off the sports field. The links with Bristol Bears and the excellent facilities mean I am very much looking forward to building on the school’s great reputation.”
