Wildflower planting challenge as part of Great Big Green Week
A series of events, workshops, film screenings and discussions are taking place across the Bristol region as part of a national environmental week of action.
The Great Big Green Week (GBGW) is a celebration of community climate action that runs until Saturday.
Organised by the Climate Coalition, the GBGW gathers communities, national organisations, institutions, businesses and the media to put pressure on the national government in tackling climate change and protecting nature.
is needed now More than ever
The Climate Coalition is the UK’s largest group dedicated to action against climate change, a group of more than 140 organisations, including the National Trust, Woman’s Institute and Oxfam.
Bronwen Smith-Thomas, head of campaigns and politics at The Climate Coalition, said: “It’s inspiring to see such dedication to create a safer and greener world for the next generation.
“Great Big Green Week is a brilliant reminder that the solutions to tackle the climate crisis and protect nature do exist and there is hope for a brighter future.”
Events in the region include the West’s biggest mass planting challenge that seeks to plant 10,000 wildflower plugs on Siston Common to improve biodiversity, encourage pollinators and recover local nature.
Planned by South Gloucestershire Council, the event will include a walking guided tour, a workshop on building bug hotels and games.
Bronwen added: “This nationwide action is a reminder to the Government that the public are demanding political action to support greener choices they are making.”
