Women’s night shelter reopens in St Jude’s
A vital women’s night shelter in the city centre has re-opened after a three year break.
Bristol-based charity inHope has reopened its Spring of Hope night shelter in St Jude, providing emergency accommodation for eight women a night.
InHope provides support to people facing homelessness, hunger, addiction and poor mental health.
is needed now More than ever
After opening in 2011, the shelter had to close in 2020 due to COVID government restrictions on night shelters with more than one bed per room.
During this time the Spring of Hope team continued to support vulnerable and houseless women, offering food parcels, move-in kits for new homes and helping women access specialist services.
The charity has now completely redecorated and hired new staff and the shelter is currently open from 10pm until 8am every night of the week.

The four rooms are open every night of the week
In addition to having somewhere safe and dry to sleep, women will also be able to have something to eat, make use of the shower facilities and access clothing and other supplies.
During the day inHope will continue to offer support to their guests. This includes activities to aid health and wellbeing, art therapy, haircuts and beauty treatments as well as access to medical support.
Spring of Hope manager Nicola Saunders said: “We are excited to be reopening the Spring of Hope night shelter.
“It is a tragedy that women in Bristol are faced with homelessness and all the risks and dangers that come with not having anywhere safe to sleep.
“Spring of Hope offers a place of sanctuary to homeless women – a place of warmth and safety where they can stay and find support to rebuild their lives.”
