Woodland and rivers searched to find DJ Derek
Rivers and woodlands were searched in a bid to find DJ Derek almost six weeks after he went missing.
The 73-year-old DJ, whose real name is Derek Morris, was last ween on CCTV in the early hours of July 11 leaving the Criterion pub on Ashley Road.
Police have focused recent searches on Thornbury, where it is believed he traveled to later on the same day.
Jennifer Griffiths, Derek’s great-niece told Bristol24/7 that police had gained a record of his electronic bus pass from the city council which shows a trip to Thornbury, but no return journey.
Jennifer, who has been leading the Find DJ Derek campaign, added: “It is a really difficult time for the family, but we are determined to keep up the search.”
A group of around 10 volunteer searched small rivers and woodlands in and around Thornbury on Wednesday.
Police also continued their search in the area with a team of sniffer dogs.
“We are focusing on wooded areas in Thornbury and areas along the bus routes between Bristol and Thornbury,” a spokesman said.
Derek is believed to have taken the 10.32am, number 78 bus to Thornbury on July 11.
Officers estimate he would have arrived in Thornbury between 11.20am-12pm, which matches with a “credible” sighting of the DJ from a close friend of his at Thornbury bus station at approximately noon.
