Work begins on £55m new sewer
Work is starting on Monday to build a 6.5km sewer from Lawrence Weston to Cribbs Causeway that will take it underneath the M5.
Wessex Water hope that the £55m North Bristol relief sewer will support new development in north Bristol and South Gloucestershire, with an additional sewer also due to be constructed in Henbury.

The first phase of the project will be the excavation of an eight-metre deep “launch pit” in the playing field of Oasis Academy Bank Leaze primary school and Lawrence Weston Moor nature reserve.

This will take seven months to build, at which point the boring machine can be lowered in.
Underground tunnelling for the new three-metre diameter sewer can then begin northwards for 5.5km in March 2020.
The remaining 1km of sewer will be built by open trenching through Lawrence Weston from the compound through the playing field of St Bede’s Catholic College, finishing outside Lawrence Weston Community Farm.
Project manager Andrew Palmer said: “This new sewer forms a crucial part of our long-term sewerage strategy for the next 100 years and is essential to ensure our network can cope with ongoing and future development in Bristol and South Gloucestershire.”
