Work to begin to make major changes on Railway Path
Work is due to begin at the end of January on much-needed upgrades to the Bristol & Bath Railway Path.
The first set of work will take place on the Lawrence Hill section of the path, with improvements being made on the popular route between Clay Bottom and its start on Trinity Street.
Completion of the upgrades is expected to finish in the summer, with path widening and resurfacing, new places to stop and rest, and improvements to junctions and access points all taking place.
is needed now More than ever
The project is being delivered by Sustrans in partnership with Bristol City Council and funded by the Department for Transport through Sustrans’ Paths for Everyone programme.
The cycling and walking charity hope that the works on the 1.5-mile stretch of the path will make it “a safer, more inclusive space, where no one is excluded”.

Sustrans interim director for the south of England, Sarah Leeming, said: “It’s wonderful to see the time and effort that everyone has given to this project coming to fruition, and that the collaborative designs will soon be coming to life on the path.
“This iconic space plays a part in so many people’s lives in all manner of ways. Making improvements to this brilliant community asset will be such an important step in helping to create a safer, more accessible and welcoming place for everyone to enjoy.”
Don Alexander, cabinet member for transport, added: “These works will greatly improve the popular route and make the path more inclusive for all users, while creating more space for residents to enjoy.”
