World’s first treehouse on a crane comes to Bristol

By Bristol24/7  Tuesday Mar 7, 2017

The four cranes outside what is now the M Shed have become a much-loved part of Bristol’s skyline. They are the last survivors of eight which were originally on the quayside and of more than 40 which were originally in the city docks during the 1950s.

Two years after the cranes came to life in a finely choreographed dance, those with a taste of the high life will be able to spend the night in a specially created treehouse on the crane nearest Prince Street thanks to quirky Bristol travel company Canopy & Stars.

From May 27 to September 30, Crane 29 will become a one-bedroom holiday home for two, costing £185 for a one-night stay for two on weeknights and £250 for two at weekends.

A treehouse with a view

“We truly believe there is nothing better than waking up to the great outdoors, seeing, feeling, touching and smelling nature all around you,” says Canopy & Stars managing director Tom Dixon.

“For the past six years we’ve been travelling Europe to inspect and select the most special experiences, finding them in the most unusual of spaces.

“We wanted to use this knowledge to create something special of our own, here in our hometown of Bristol, a hub of ingenuity and creativity with green principles at its heart.”

Dixon says that they are aiming for a “natural high, a pocket of nature in the city, something totally unexpected”.

The first ballot for Canopy & Stars at Crane 29 opens  on Tuesday, March 7 via www.canopyandstars.co.uk/crane29. The treehouse opens to guests on May 27, with the second ballot opening on July 3 and the treehouse closing to guests on September 30.
