Wristband Amnesty for Big Jeff
Known for his love of music and gigs, Jeffery Johns, better known as Big Jeff, Bristol’s famous gig-goer, was seriously injured in a fire at his home in Totterdown on June 6.
Several months later he is still recovering in Southmead Hospital and there has been an outpouring of support from bands and musicians, such as IDLES and Self Esteem
People have now come together to donate wristbands and other gig paraphernalia as a present for Jeff. With Jeff himself estimating that he has attended over 4,000 gigs, it is a fitting present.
is needed now More than ever
The group was set up by Vonalina Cake, long-time Bristolian and friend of Jeff’s, who plans to turn the paraphenalia into a garland for him. She is also asking for the items to have a message as well as your name so the gift will be similar to get well soon card.

However, despite the best of intentions, Von explains that they are having some issues getting the necessary goods together for Jeff’s ‘Garland of Love’; this is down to the misinformation that was spread when Jeff’s accident first happened.
Many people thought it was his wristbands that caught fire but in a statement released on August 17, it was revealed that it was the bottom of his shirt that caught alight while he was cooking at home.
The amnesty is currently accepting ticket stubs, photos, wristbands and anything else that relates to one of the many gigs and festivals that have been and gone.
The Exchange have offered themselves up as the postal drop off point for the collection. Please address all parcels to VONALINA CAKE or BIG JEFF’S WRISTBAND AMNESTY.
