Fran is a recruitment agent for the South West for fishtank. She tells Bristol24/7 how she has seen the job market shift from an ’employer’s market’, to a hotbed of opportunity for talented digital creatives, particularly in the South West:

fishtank specialise in marketing, digital and creative recruitment predominantly in the South West and South East. We were founded in 2003 to offer our clients and candidates a more unique and specialist service.

I have been working at fishtank since 2012 and cover Creative Recruitment for the South West. Having the office in the heart of Bristol’s city centre is great as it means many of my clients and candidates are right on my doorstep. I work with a wide variety of clients ranging from advertising, digital and design agencies through to financial services and not for profit organisations.

I’ve seen the market change quite significantly since I started at fishtank. We were still in a recession when I joined, but now having come out of the other side, the job market is buoyant.

We have remained committed to the specialist roots we started out with, but have also adapted to market changes as times & trends have demanded. One good example of this is with the fast pace that Digital Marketing has grown in the last few years.  This has brought the arrival of many new & brilliant digital agencies on to the Bristol scene as well as existing agencies expanding their digital offering.

We’ve always recruited for this creative digital market, but as client needs developed, we recognised the increased demand to assist our clients further so expanded our team to include Digital Development Recruitment specialising in PHP Developers, Front End Web Developers, IOS Developers & Android Developers.

One major change that I’ve noticed is that 2 or so years ago, the attitude was very much that job seekers should be grateful for any opportunity as it was very much an employers market. Now, there are more job opportunities and fewer candidates for employers to choose from. Job seekers are placing a lot of importance on things like training and progression opportunities, benefits and flexible working options.

We have been working with our clients to ensure they get the best candidates for their roles and provide them with advice to help them adapt to candidate & market demands.

With Bristol becoming more and more recognised as a creative and digital hotspot (as cited by the Bristol Media Barometer 2014 survey), it is no wonder that people are no longer running away to ‘the big smoke’ and instead choosing to stay within Bristol’s digital hub.

And it’s not just the jobs that are keeping people here; more and more candidates are drawn to the South West preferring the lifestyle it has to offer, knowing the job opportunities are available.  For our clients, this means a whole new wave of skilled and enthusiastic candidates to consider.

fishtank is an established boutique agency providing clients with a consultative & honest approach to ensure they receive the best high quality of service that we can deliver. We’ve built some great relationships over the years and are continually building new ones along the way. We appreciate that every business has different needs and therefore we never have a ‘one size fits all’ attitude.

We’re here to make the recruitment process as easy as possible and place the same level of importance on the person who is looking to fill a vacancy as the person who is hoping to be the one to fill it.  For more information please visit www.fishtank.cc
