My Bristol Favourites: Rich Warren
Rich Warren is director of the Encounters Short Film & Animation Festival, which returns to Bristol for its 23rd annual edition from September 19-24. The festival offers a chance to see some of the best emerging talent from around the world as well as some headline evening events, including an animation masterclass with the voice of the Minions and director of the Despicable Me movies, Pierre Coffin.
Here are Rich’s top-five Bristol favourites:
The Watershed
is needed now More than ever
“The Watershed is always going to feature high-up in any list of Bristol favourites, as not only is it the home for Encounters, but it is the venue where I got married to my wonderful wife. The team are exceptional at what they do, which is why the Watershed is a thriving indie cinema and community hub.”
Harbourside Market
“A favourite of mine, and all the Encounters festival team, is the Harbourside Market on Thursdays, Saturdays and Sundays which has some wonderful food stalls with fresh, local produce that is ethically produced. Plus it’s a great excuse for getting out the office when we’re busy!”
Swoon
“Swoon on College Green is the perfect place to get a caffeine fix, and feast on incredible gelato which is made on the premises. The only problem is choosing a flavour combination…”
Windmill Hill City Farm
“A favourite of mine, and my son’s, is Windmill Hill City Farm. They do great work in the community providing education and therapy using food and farming – and like Encounters, they’re a charity. They are the epitome of what this city is about.”
Prince Street Social
“The Prince Street Social bottomless brunch is a bit of a discovery! You get two hours in which to eat a great breakfast, and wash it down with bottomless beer or prosecco. What’s not to love?”
