My Bristol Favourites: Sam Sohn-Rethel
Sam Sohn-Rethel is co-owner of Bellita, whose recent comments in Bristol24/7 predicting that Bristol’s restaurant bubble is about to burst stirred up a lot of debate.
Here are Sam’s top-five Bristol favourites:
No Man’s Grace
is needed now More than ever

“There are some world class chefs cooking in Bristol at the moment. I recently had a long, sunny lunch on the terrace at No Man’s Grace on Chandos Road. We had the best Bloody Marys made out of tomato essence. Special mentions also to amazing chefs Sam at Birch and Jan at Wilsons among many others.”
Oowee Diner
“There are so many burger places in Bristol at the moment. My favourite is Oowee Diner on Picton Street conveniently located across the road from where I used to work at Bell’s Diner. The owners worked really hard from day one to get the consistency just right.”
Bombolini

“Bombolini has just recently opened up near to where I live on Gloucester Road. It is the perfect neighbourhood restaurant. It’s open all day so great for an early dinner with the kids. Andrew cooks really simple but beautiful food which is really good value for money. There’s also a cheap kids menu. It’s a really popular formula for a restaurant similar to the equally good Prego in Westbury Park.”
Hung Phat
“Hung Phat Vietnamese supermarket at the top end of Gloucester Road is definitely underused. Maybe because of its location? There’s always a great selection of fresh south east Asian vegetables and herbs available.”
Bristol’s location
“I’ve always loved how accessible places like the Gower, the Cotswolds, Devon and Dorset are from Bristol. It makes days out or weekend camping with the kids really easy and fun.”
