Meet the new Bristol-born Love Island contestant
23-year-old Bristol-born Laura Crane entered the Love Island villa on Monday night. But who is she?
A world-renowned surfer, model and Instagram influencer with more than 110,000 followers, Laura has been competing in surfing championships nationally and globally since she was 16.
Laura was born in Bristol and moved to the north Devon town of Croyde at age 11, where her dad taught her to surf.

Her talent quickly led her to competing in local contests then national competitions, and before she knew it, led to her becoming a national champion.
She was soon sponsored by swimwear brand Billabong, which meant she soon started travelling the world. And in her own words, “the rest was history”.
She has been representing Great Britain for seven years and has completed the qualifying stages of the World Series for the past two years.

Laura now lives in Ericeira in Portugal which is known as a hot spot for surfing, with the right-hand point break waves found at the beach five minutes from her house her favourite in the world.
As well as being a model, Laura has starred in ex-The Wanted member Max George’s music video for the song Barcelona in which she demonstrated her superb surfing abilities.
Max himself even described her as the “star of the video” and could not stop himself from gushing over Twitter when it was announced she would be entering the villa.
Laura seems to be a cool, collected and passionate young woman, who doesn’t seem phased by much. She has seen sharks whilst surfing in South Africa and definitely does not scare easy.
On her first episode on Love Island, Laura went on a date with recently single Sam, and seemed to make a striking first impression. Sam was wowed by her surfing history, and the fact she lives in between London and Portugal. Your Love Island correspondent hopes that Sam and Laura will be a perfect match for one another.
