My Bristol Favouries: Rosie Morgan
Rosie Morgan is The Bristol Cheesemonger, supplying artisan West Country cheeses every month at Hart’s Bakery (including next Saturday, September 27) and various other venues across the city. Follow @bristol_cheese on Twitter for updates.
Ashley Vale allotments
“I am fortunate enough to live very close to the Ashley Vale allotments. They are a beautiful set of allotments, especially this time of year, and I find myself on most summer evenings either going for a stroll or a run along the footpath. I love that on a summer’s evening you can walk through and see folk busy tending to their runner beans and sweet peas. The footpaths head off through St Werburgh’s where there are many good spots to pick blackberries.”
Bloc Climbing Centre
is needed now More than ever
“Bloc Climbing Centre is only a quick four-minute cycle from my flat. I am a keen but not very good climber, but that’s not an issue at Bloc. The staff there are really friendly and create a welcoming climbing space for any ability. You can go for a climb, pause and have a quick snack and a coffee and then head back to the walls and it never feels over busy. I was also fortunate enough to attend a ladies climbing session a couple of months ago run by a qualified instructor for all abilities to help women perfect their climbing technique. As someone who loves climbing – but I’m happy to admit, doesn’t have a natural flare for it, very uncoordinated and slightly clumsy – it was a really positive session.”
Bristol Sweet Mart
“I love Sweet Mart. It’s fantastic for having a great variety of foods. Whether it’s a kilo of chickpeas you’re after or something more exotic of the fruit and veg variety, Sweet Mart has it. It’s open later in the evening too so I can always head over there after work. I view it as a great local supermarket with an incredibly varied selection of food.”
Tobacco Factory Sunday market
“On Sundays, there are a select few things I want to do with my time. The list, in not preferential order, normally goes: eat, drink (coffee, tea, beer in that order), cycle, mosey, see friends. I can do all of this at the Tobacco Factory Sunday market. A great selection of food stalls means I can eat a variety of treats while wandering around checking out all the great local producers and assortment of stalls, normally while hanging out with a pal. I then usually cycle to a pub to eat more and have a beer. A perfect Sunday.”
Full Court Press
“When I’m not in my Bristol Cheesemonger mode, I’m also very lucky to work at Full Court Press. More often than not I find myself at FCP on my days off to chill out, have a coffee and chat about bikes. I think a business where the staff stop by in their free time speaks volumes. Mat and Dave can’t keep away either! If you haven’t already, pop by and say hi.”
