My Bristol Favourites: Alice de Haan
Alice de Haan is co-director of Wonder Fields Festival, taking place near Exeter from July 12 to 15. Tucked away in the gorgeous grounds of Great Fulford Estate, it promises a little slice of heaven in Devon.
She is currently on site at Worthy Farm preparing for Glastonbury Festival. When at home in Bristol, she runs events company Wonder Productions in St Paul’s.
These are Alice’s top-five Bristol favourites:
is needed now More than ever
Bristol’s food scene

A colourful dish at the Michelin-starred Bulrush
“I love the food scene in Bristol now. When I moved here nine years ago I was a chef and the variety wasn’t really there. Cafe Maitreya (sadly closed) used to be my favourite place as you could get incredible veggie food, at a great price. Now I love the mushroom burgers from our friends at Burger Theory on St Stephen’s Street.
“Bulrush in Cotham, who just won their first Michelin star, is one of the best places I have eaten in a really long time. Root in Wapping Wharf is pretty up there on my list. Or The Pump House in Hotwells for a delicious gin by the river.”
St Werburgh’s

St Werburgh’s City Farm Summer Fair
“I have to choose St Werburgh’s for being so special and different to anywhere else… ever? Surrounded by allotments making it like a little village in the country, right in the centre of the city. The Farm where I worked for a while and The Miner’s Arms being two of the best pubs in Bristol, and St Werburgh’s City Farm with their cute animals and amazing projects. Plus Boiling Wells which is like stepping into the countryside every time.”
Crafty Egg

Crafty Egg opened on Stokes Croft in 2016
“Crafty Egg on Stokes Croft do a delicious breakfast and smoothies. Plus my dog can come in and bonus if my girlfriend is there also! I highly recommend the salmon and potato hash with a poached egg. It’s also painted teal on the outside. Great colour!”
The Plough

The Plough is the beating heart of Easton
“Because you never know what your going to get but you know it will always be good whether a quick pint or a dance until the early hours. Plus, it’s my local!”
Amazing green spaces

Snuff Mills is one of Alice’s favourite green spaces in Bristol
“Bristol is super green you can hop out into what feels like the country side in a quick drive or stomp and I love walking my dog Ned in all the beautiful places it has to offer. Snuff Mills, Ashton Court and Leigh Woods are just some of my favourites.”
