My Bristol Favourites: Brett St Clair
Brett St Clair is the head chef at Bakers & Co on Gloucester Road. Since joining the business two years ago, he has developed both new dishes and Bakers staples.
These are his top-five Bristol favourites:
Watershed
is needed now More than ever
“Cinema is pure escapism for me and the Watershed is the place to go on an evening off. They champion the best indie and international cinema, so you can always catch the smaller films that you wouldn’t get to see anywhere else. As well as always having some great family films on offer which keeps the kids happy.”
Rough Trade
“I was so sad when Rise on the Clifton Triangle closed a few years back, but having Rough Trade open in Nelson Street more than made up for it, and has kept me discovering new music. The regular in-store performances by artists are just another reason to love it.”
SWX
“SWX is fast becoming my favourite venue in Bristol. It plays home to a wide variety of artists and I have gotten to see some of my favourites there the past few years.”
Cotham Hill
“A couple of days after I accepted the job at Bakers, it was the Cotham Hill street party, which I’d never been to before. I immediately became enamoured with the neighbourhood and the community; it really feels like its own little unique place, and the independent shops there are fantastic.”
Gloucester Road
“Long before I started at Bakers, I regularly visited for brunch, and once again really fell in love with how self contained the area is and how eclectic it is at the same time. You can step out of the cafe and find anything you could want or need within a ten-minute walk.”
