My Bristol Favourites: Aisha Chaouche

By Martin Booth  Friday Apr 19, 2019

Aisha Chaouche spent her childhood growing up in Swansea before moving to Bristol. Signed to Night Time Stories, her debut album Safe was released in June 2018.

Chaouche is playing at the Bristol Takeover 2019 at the Colston Hall on Saturday, April 27.

The free one-day mini festival will showcase some of the best acts Bristol has to offer, on stages throughout the foyer hosted by homegrown brands.

These are Chaouche’s top-five Bristol favourites:

Leigh Woods

“Leigh Woods is my favourite place to walk around in Bristol. It’s peaceful and full of beautiful old trees. Lots of birds are always singing and there’s even a bluebell forest. If you catch it at the right time of year you get to see all the bluebells blooming. It’s very magical.”

University of Bristol Botanic Garden

“A very beautiful place and I love looking at species of plants from around the world. The Botanic Garden gives me inspiration and reminds me how big the planet is. For me it’s worth paying a few quid for that experience.”

Cabot Tower

“Cabot Tower at the top of Brandon Hill is very close to my house. I love climbing up the spiral stairs with my boyfriend and having a look out at the top. You can see in every direction and engraved into metal plates are arrows pointing in different directions and distances you would find other major cities. When I’m up there, I like to imagine people in other cities doing the same thing pointing at Bristol.”

Westonbirt, The National Arboretum

Westonbirt is another great place for me to collect my thoughts while admiring the beauty of Mother Nature. I haven’t been there in the summer yet, so I’m really excited about how things will have changed throughout spring.”

Bristol Sweet Mart

Sweet Mart is one of my absolute favourite places to go to get some authentic Indian goodies. I pass there a fair amount, and every time I do I look forward to grabbing something from the hot deli. They have loads of lovely flat breads and spices as well.”
