My Bristol Favourites: Dan Bekhradnia
Dan Bekhradnia is managing director of The Burger Joint, which recently celebrated its 10th birthday. The University of Bristol politics graduate opened the first Burger Joint on Cotham Hill which after three years moved around the corner to Whiteladies Road, and now has a second restaurant on North Street.
Here are Dan’s top-five Bristol favourites:
The Downs
is needed now More than ever
“I lived just by the Downs when I first moved to Bristol in 2003 and it’s always been a very special place for me. It’s so beautiful and relaxing. I go running and walking around there a lot.”
Cotham Hill
“I’ve always spent a lot of time on the Hill. Firstly as a student when I lived just off it and then once I opened the first Burger Joint there. It’s got such character and I love the array of independent businesses there.”
King Street pubs
“There’s no better place to be than hanging out in the beer gardens on King Street on a summer’s evening. There’s always such a great atmosphere.”
Thekla
“Now I’m in my mid-30s I don’t frequent Thekla very often but I used to love it when I was younger. I actually ran a drum and bass night there called Overload for a couple of years before moving it over to the Bristol Academy. It’s such a cool place and can’t think of many other nightclubs on a boat in the country. It perfectly sums up the uniqueness of Bristol.”
Goldney Hall
“These University of Bristol halls of residence in Clifton is the most beautiful place. I had a friend living at Goldney Hall when I was in halls in Stoke Bishop and I was very jealous I wasn’t there. More recently, I was best man at my friend’s wedding there and it’s where I first met my wife. Last year I took her back there and proposed to her in the gardens so it’s a place that holds very special memories for me.”
