My Bristol Favourites: Dan O’Regan
Dan O’Regan is the founder and owner of Bank on Wells Road in Totterdown, which has recently been honoured in the Good Food Awards 2023.
Bank has also undertaken two collaborations: the first with Circumstance distillery where their cocktails will be put into cans for retail, and the second with the Pony Bistro on North Street to host one of their final events raising money for Action Against Hunger.
These are Dan’s top-five Bristol favourites (in order of him spending a dream day in Bristol):
is needed now More than ever
Farro

“Farro just can’t put a foot wrong. Everything they do is just so quality-focused but most importantly all delicious. Everything just tastes so good. Their sourdough is the best that I have ever had and their kouign-amann ice cream sandwich just blows my mind.”
New Cut

“When the sun comes out, going to sit on the benches at New Cut overlooking the water with a coffee is just heaven for me. It’s often extremely serene and the coffee is exceptional. They are also just really nice people in there which also goes a long way. People make hospitality and they are a lovely team doing a great job in a beautiful setting.”
Full Court Press

“What I like about Full Court Press is that they are constantly sourcing really interesting coffee and now roasting great coffee as well. What I love about what they do is that most places when they start roasting their own coffee, they will then only sell their own coffee because it’s more cost-effective; but Full Court Press have kept the guest programme which I think is a real testament to what they’re doing. They are so invested in the community, supporting other roasters and building good relationships which is so important.”
Newtown Park taproom

“Considering Newtown Park is still a really young brewery, their beer is just consistently exceptional. The owners Lara and Macca are also really nice people. Here at Bank, we have a small selection of guest beers that change frequently. Newtown Park are the only brewery that we have not swapped out; we have consistently had their beers here since day one. They strike a balance between complex and interesting beers that are very easy to drink.”
Little Hollows

“I absolutely love fresh pasta and I love getting great food in a casual environment. When I go to Little Hollows, I like to get the stuff that is a little less classic. I tend to go for their seasonal specials like squash tortellini. I have been there a few times and every time, when my wife gets a dessert I get another plate of pasta. They are single-minded in their focus here; doing one great thing well.”
