These are David’s top-five Bristol favourites:
University of Bristol Botanic Garden

“The Botanic Garden is a peaceful and beautifully kept garden which being university-owned is also a horticultural lesson as you walk round.”
Cafe Napolita

“Cafe Napolita in St Werburgh’s is a lovely restaurant for pizza and pastas that rapidly reinvented itself in response to the pandemic with incredible takeaway food and goods. It supported the NHS as well with discounted meals.”
St Andrew’s Park

“St Andrew’s Park is my local park so I am a bit biased but I do think it is the best in the city. It has a really friendly community atmosphere, paddling pool and mobile cafe, with great views of the rest of Bristol.”
Fed 303

Fed 303 is one of many hospitality businesses in Bristol that has pivoted during the coronavirus pandemic – photo by Martin Booth
“Fed 303 is a relatively new cafe on Gloucester Road which was always packed thanks to their amazing brunch. Now it serves takeaway salads and pastries. They have also supported healthcare staff hugely during the pandemic by delivering food and drinks to hospitals.”
The Orpheus Cinema

The current three-screen Orpheus Cinema was built on the site of the original Orpheus Cinema that had opened in February 1938 with 1,400 seats, set in an Art Deco style building – photo by Rhys Jones Parry
“The Orpheus in Henleaze is a superb neighbourhood cinema. Great staff, cups of tea and not-too-big make give it a very relaxed feel. I would much rather watch a film here than anywhere else in Bristol.”
