My Bristol Favourites: David Hill

By Martin Booth  Saturday Nov 6, 2021

David Hill is head of marketing at Huboo, one of Bristol’s most successful new businesses of recent years.

With its head office on Corn Street, Huboo provides order fulfilment for eCommerce sellers. Founded in 2017, the company has since expanded its team to hundreds of staff, with plans for a further 200 to 300 to be hired across the South West in the coming months.

It has fulfilment centres – warehouses which handle large volumes of customer orders – in Bradley Stoke, Emersons Green and Severn Beach, as well as one in the Netherlands and another set to open soon in Spain.

These are David’s top-five Bristol favourites:

Brandon Hill in the autumn

“What a brilliant place throughout the year but none more so than autumn. With the leaves changing colour and the earlier sunsets, it offers a lot of natural beauty. And it’s great for getting your steps up too, along with elevation! Awesome views too, including Ashton Gate and south Bristol.”

Pigsty

“I’m slightly biased here as I went to school with one of the three brothers who run it, Max. But what Olly, Max and Josh have created at Pigsty is an exceptional dining experience catering to the everyone from the hungover to the pork connoisseurs. They’re a Bristol success story, stocked in Sainsburys nationally through their Jolly Hog range and also have a residency at Ashton Gate.”

Picnics at Cumberland Basin

“Summer evening picnics in Cumberland Basin can produce the most spectacular settings. Unrivalled views of the Clifton Suspension Bridge, excellent sunset range and if you’re lucky enough then you’ll see the hot air balloons float over the bridge. What a sight!”

Bedminster Cricket Club

Bedminster Cricket Club’s home ground is known as the Clanage after the road on which it is located – photo: Bedminster CC

“Is there a better setting for cricket than Bedminster Cricket Club, situated just by Ashton Court? Not only that but it has a real emphasis on family and togetherness. So kids from the age of eight upwards can join, have fun and really get involved in the cricket scene.”

St Nick’s Market

“A collection of brilliant independent restaurants serving some of the best food in Bristol. Take your pick from Low & Slow, Matina, Big Juice Bar and more. And it’s just so picture postcard-esque when Christmas rolls around. (The Mothers Ruin pub round the corner is also the place to go for a great singsong.)”
