My Bristol Favourites: Emma Chapman-Burnett

By Bristol24/7  Saturday Nov 26, 2016

Emma Chapman-Burnett is the founder of Live Bristol, an Instagram account celebrating Bristol. Their first event is a pop-up gallery at 123 Space on Cheltenham Road on Sunday, November 27 showcasing some of the best photos of Bristol taken this year. It’s free entry, with prints of all of the photos for sale.

Here are Emma’s top-five Bristol favourites:

Katie & Kim’s Kitchen

“Hiding away on Picton Street in Montpelier, Katie & Kim’s Kitchen makes Bristol’s best brunch by far. I love the quirkiness of the location set back from the main road and only one communal table for everyone to share. It has quite the cosy atmosphere and their brunch menu is dreamy with the largest piece of sourdough bread that exists. Definitely gluten full not free! I recommend the poached eggs with pesto and date chutney.”

Radford Mill Farm Shop

“Adjoining Katie & Kim’s is the lovely little farm shop which a brunch trip is never complete without a stop here to grab snacks for the road. Radford Mill sell a variety of organic food and products but favourite must be the raw dark matter brownies bites – yummy and healthy, what more could you want?”

Orpheus Cinema

“While in America, I fell in love with Dollar Theatre; yes, a cinema where every movie costs only $1. The Orpheus next to Waitrose in Henleaze is the next best thing for a cheap evening treat. I love how homely the cinema is. I think I may have even taken in a blanket once. All movies, even recent ones, are around £4 and there is always so much space. Your venturing out yet still feels like the comfort on your own home. If you see a girl in slippers there it might be me!”

Harbourside strolls

“Growing up by the seaside I often need a water fix and if I can’t make it out to Clevedon Pier, the harbourside always seems to do the trick. There is a great free car park under Cumberland Basin in Hotwells and then you can walk all the way along with a stop at Spoke & Stringer and then a pint at the Rose of Denmark on the journey back. The best sunsets seem to be captured here and it’s a great people watching spot too, especially in the summer when there is always paddle boarding, rowing or some water activity happening.”

Spicer & Cole

“Last but not least is Spicer & Cole cafe in Clifton. I love the exposed walls and window benches, always make for a great reading spot or catch up with a friend. Their coffee and food are all divine. But their CAKE. Well, that’s a whole other story. Every time the problem is choosing which one, so I’ve figured out the only solution is to take a friend, buy two cakes and split them.”
