My Bristol Favourites: Eva Lazarus
Eva Lazarus is a singer, songwriter and MC whose new album, Brandy Kisses, is released on September 8.
These are Eva’s top-five Bristol favourites:
Stokes Croft
is needed now More than ever

Stokes Croft represents Bristol’s rebellious nature, says Eva – photo: Martin Booth
“My favourite road in Bristol! I’ve played at so many venues on that road: Attic Bar and Lakota still pumping out 10/10 levels for live and bass music. That Thing is an incredible independent shop that stocks hand-made pieces, vintage and amazing accessories. For eats, Caribbean Croft and Biblos. And shout out PRSC! Stokes Croft is vibrant spot full of art, artists and Bristol’s rebellious nature.”
Thekla

Built in Germany in 1958, Thekla originally carried a variety of cargoes between northern and western Europe ports, particularly timber from ports of the Baltic Sea – photo: Martin Booth
“A venue that’s a boat! What’s not to love about that! When I first moved to Bristol I was a dedicated fan showing up at all UK hip hop, DnB and reggae shows that were put on there. I recently played a headline show here and it was a beautiful full-circle moment. It was a huge honour as Thekla is a top-tier Bristol venue.”
North Street

“For Upfest alone, North Street is a Bristol winner! The level of artistry at this street art and graffiti festival is too much! North Street is a place I send people when they ask what to do in Bristol. It’s another amazing place to socialise. Tobacco Factory, Hen & Chicken or Spotted Cow are the recommends; if you haven’t tried you should!”
St Werburgh’s

St Werburgh’s City Farm has two-acre smallholding, one-acre community garden, 2.5-acre conservation site and 13 acres of community allotments – photo: Martin Booth
“I love St Werburgh’s City Farm! Having a cute little city farm isn’t something I’ve ever seen anywhere else. With the cafe and playground attached it’s a full-on wholesome experience! The whole St Werburgh’s area has green, self sufficient, allotment, everyone recycling and upcycling, Greta Thunburg vibes.”
Easton

The Black Swan is a legendary pub on Stapleton Road – photo: Martin Booth
“I lived in Easton for a long time and between Mama Cleo’s Kitchen, the Black Swan, the Plough and Sweetmart, I was happily walking distance from deliciousness at all times whether it was food or music. I was in my element!”
