My Bristol Favourites: $h The Producer
$h The Producer’s new EP, Views From Feltham Court, is being released on his own DeeOh7 label on January 15, featuring five tracks of instrumental grime each taking its name from a different part of Bristol significant to him.
When he is not creating beats, $h The Producer works as an operations supervisor at Bristol docks.
His mum was part of the Windrush generation, moving from Jamaica to Bristol when she was ten; while his dad is English with both Scottish and Irish heritage.
is needed now More than ever
$h The Producer’s career in grime music started when he began MCing at just 14 before moving to production at 16. But then after becoming a dad, he stopped music altogether to focus on fatherhood.
On his 28th birthday, 10 years after stopping, he decided to buy a laptop and started making music again, founding Dee Oh 7 with Slowie, Koast and Jinx; and having a monthly radio show on SWU.FM alongside Jinxsta JX and Twizzy.
“Music is my safe space and what I really enjoy doing,” $h The Producer says. “The fact that other people like it is a bonus.”
These are $h The Producer’s top-five Bristol favourites:

“I used to live on Oldbury Court Drive and the garden backed onto the park. I spent hours walking and jogging in the area and still visit it. A great outdoor space in Bristol.”
Oowee Diner

“I live in Montpelier and remember when they opened the first Oowee Diner on Picton Street. Since then I’ve been hooked – perfect hangover cure.”

“I visited St Werburgh’s Climbing Academy a lot as a youngster and loved it . I recently got back into it before lockdown and also visit their other centre, The Mothership in St Philip’s, with my eldest son.”
Dristi’s

Dristi’s on St Paul’s Road is named after the sister of founders Kevin and Sunny – photo: Dristi’s
“If I go out, Dristi’s in Clifton a regular spot. It’s a great place for a cocktail and a cheeky shisha.”

“If I’m not at work or on dad duties this is where I go; either making beats on my own or with Slowie, Koast and Jinxsta JX working on material for our Dee Oh 7 label.”
