My Bristol Favourites: Iris Hable
After two years of pop-ups and markets the popular Japanese street food outfit is setting it’s sights on supper clubs. Tsukemono is launching a series of “seasonal feasts” that will celebrate Japanese food with a focus on seasonal and local produce.
“We have wanted to do this since we first started Tsukemono two years ago”, explains founder Iris Hable. “The seasonal feasts will be a celebration of everything we love about Japanese food. This is a chance for us to push boundaries and have fun.”
The supper club’s summer edition will feature a multicourse menu designed to satisfy all hot weather cravings, catering for ethical omnivores and vegans alike.
is needed now More than ever
Highlights include the ultimate summer treat Kakigori, a Japanese shaved ice dessert flavoured with an exciting range of syrups and Kushikatsu, a deep-fried delight on a skewer and staple of Osaka’s street-food scene. The menu also boasts mackerel sashimi along with a vegan sashimi consisting of seaweed cured heritage carrot.
But it doesn’t stop with the food. Tsukemono’s Adam Hartshorne is a trained printmaker and has created a series of limited edition prints that diners will be able to take away as a keepsake.
“I’ve always been fascinated by the rich history of Japanese printmaking. The prints, like the food, are inspired by the seasons. Both are really transient experiences and we hope we can provide people with something memorable.”
Diners that make it to all four supper clubs will have a little seasonal print collection of your own.
To keep quality high and costs low the event will be BYO with pairing recommendations released shortly before the supper club. All four seasonal feasts will take place at Hart’s bakery: The summer edition on the June 2, the autumn feast at the September 8 and the winter feast on the December 8. With the spring feast is already taking us in to the next year and will take place on the March 29 2020.
Tickets for the all the seasonal feasts are available at www.eventbrite.co.uk/o/tsukemono

Water Sky Garden
“We do a lot of shopping at Wai Yee Hong but it took us a while to investigate what was at the top of the big staircase. If we’re feeling self-indulgent or hungover on a Sunday this is where you will find us for lunch.
“Come for the excellent dim sum, stay for the spectacle of a faux-glamorous ballroom run with military precision.”
The Loaf

Inside the Bristol Loaf
“All hail the Gods of pastries! This is our extended living room at this point. I love the myriads of plants and the open concept. Gary and his team have really made somethings special that’s fast become the heart of church road.”
The Cube

A charming independent cinema
“When it comes to independent cinemas Bristol is lucky to have a gem like the The Cube. It’s hard to beat when it comes to art house programming. Support your local indies peeps, not just when it comes to food but also when it comes to film!”
Chilli Daddy

Proper Szechuan food
“Real Szechuan food at it’s finest, to fit even the smallest of wallets. The Dan Dan Noodle Hotpot has to be our favourite. We live for the chilli sweats. Dishes are topped with the ultimate staple of szechuan cuisine: Chiu Chow chilli oil. You can order your spice level from 1 to 5. From the garish green walls to the plastic tablecloths Chilli Daddy is unapologetically itself and we love it.”
The Volunteer Tavern

One of the best beer gardens in Bristol?
“We might be biased because we did our first ever pop-up there, but The Volly is our favourite pub. There’s something so intrinsically Bristol about it and it’s run by lovely people with a community minded approach. Also has one of the best beer gardens in Bristol.”
